Welcome to Deception Bay Flexi!
Since opening in 2006, Deception Bay Flexi has been a school grounded in strong relationships, where young people are treated with dignity, understanding and belief in their potential.
At Deception Bay Flexible School, we support young people who haven’t always felt at home or successful in mainstream education. We walk alongside students as they reconnect with learning in ways that make sense for them.
Our campus is a welcoming, inclusive space where safety, belonging and encouragement come first. Here, students are supported to rebuild confidence, re-engage with education and explore pathways that reflect who they are and where they want to go. We understand that success looks different for everyone, and that meaningful learning only happens when people feel genuinely valued and respected. All our work is based on a strengths-based approach – we know that young people do well if they can.
As part of Edmund Rice Education Australia’s Flexible Schools network, we share a national commitment to Liberating Education, guided by the values of Gospel Spirituality, Inclusive Community, Justice and Solidarity. At Deception Bay Flexi, we do school differently. Young people’s voice is front and centre of how we work. We seek to reduce barriers that stop young people from achieving their potential, and build skills that will see young people thrive.
Our community is centred around four core principles: Respect, Participation, Honesty, and Being Safe and Legal. These principles underpin our daily practice and the culture we create together.
Our team includes educators, youth workers, wellbeing practitioners and external support people. We strive to be a culturally safe space, where all young people feel safe, seen and part of our community. Above all, we are collaborators in learning, working alongside young people rather than directing them from a distance. Through a mix of project-based learning, accredited courses, outdoor education, creative programs and targeted wellbeing support, we offer flexible pathways that respond to each young person’s needs. We believe education is about more than academics — it’s about connection, identity, purpose and hope.
If you’re a young person, family member or community partner learning about our school for the first time, we encourage you to reach out. Come and experience how we balance structure with flexibility, learning with care, and challenge with compassion.
We don’t see our role as fixing young people. Our focus is on creating the conditions where they can grow, succeed and thrive.
Thank you for taking the time to learn about Deception Bay Flexi. We’re proud of our community — and even prouder of the young people who are at the heart of it every day.
